Fighting for Freedom: How to Respond to Attacks

The 4th of July is upon us. This is the month America celebrates freedom as a nation. I pray that you are enjoying the reality of the freedom and liberty that Jesus paid such a great price to give us.

I want to remind you; Jesus didn’t come just so you could go to heaven when you die. He came to give you freedom now, in this life we are living on the earth…John 8:36 (NKJV)

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

But as you probably know if you’ve lived very long, that doesn’t mean you won’t be contested as you live out your life. Jesus defeated Satan at the cross, but He didn’t kill him. He is still alive and will oppose you every step of the way.

Attacks come against all of us. The enemy wants to intimidate you and make you feel small. But you have to understand this: your response to those attacks determines whether you will walk in freedom or bondage. And the boldness of your response is important. Let me explain.

Remember the story of David and Goliath? Goliath was a formidable giant. He was over 9 feet tall. His armor alone weighed over 150 lbs. He was also a trash talker. As they faced off in the valley that day, Goliath bellowed, “Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? I’m going to kill you and feed your flesh to the wild animals.” (1 Samuel 17) Goliath was a mouthy intimidator!

David was only a teenage Shepherd boy, maybe 16-17 years old. In the natural, he didn’t have a chance. But David knew God! And because he knew God, he responded with bold words of faith.

He said something like this: “Yeah, you’re bigger than me, and you are coming at me with a spear, a sword and a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord!”

He didn’t stop there: he said, “Today I’m going to whip you and kill you, and cut off your head; then I’m going to give the dead bodies of your men to the birds to eat, and then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!”

In essence he is saying, “I’m killing you, your men with you, and then I’m going to put it on Facebook, and Twitter, and Instagram! And the whole world will know about the goodness of my God!”

When attacks come your way, your response is very important. You need to boldly respond to your challenges with words of faith. “But Pastor Ken, I have a dreaded disease I’m dealing with.” Boldly respond with 1 Peter 2:24…with Jesus’ stripes I am healed.

“But my kids are away from God.” Acts 16:31…If I believe in Jesus, my whole house will be saved.” There are promises to cover any attack you may be dealing with. Be like David. Attack back with bold words of faith. You are a child of almighty God! Act like it.

You have what it takes to win. Great things are happening in our ministry as we continue to travel and preach on the purpose and priority of family.
