What does God say about rest?
I have a word for you this month. Rest. It is very important to understand what this means.
No doubt life on the earth in 2018 is full of things to do. Just listen to people when you ask the question, “How are you doing?” There is about a 96% chance the exhausted answer will be, “I have been so busy.”
Working jobs, keeping up with all the chores of having a house, a myriad of all sorts of outside activities…the list goes on and on and it takes work to juggle everything that presents itself to us. But here is the deal…we have to learn to say no. We can’t do everything that flies our way.
We have to make time for the most important thing in our life. That would be spending time with Jesus. Time in His presence, thinking on His Word, will energize you for every challenge you will face. We need time to rest our bodies. We also must make the time to connect in our marriage and our relationship with our kids. It is a principle that God initiated in the very beginning.
God created the world in six days, and on the seventh day He rested. He was modeling the truth that you can’t work 24/7.
This is so important to God, that it made its way into the 10 commandments, in Exodus 20:8-10.
8. Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.
9. Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10. But the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the LORD your God. [In it] you shall do no work…
“But Brother Ken, we’re not under the law.” That would be correct. But the Sabbath is more than a law. It is an unchangeable spiritual principle. This is what the New Testament says about the Sabbath…Hebrews 4:9 (NLT) So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.
We’ve got to have regular rest. When we do so, we’re saying to Jesus and the rest of the world, “I could be working Lord, but I am going to take the time to pray, to think on your Word, and rest my body. I could be working, but I’m going to make a special effort to spend regular, quality time with my spouse and connect with my kids.”
Take it from me, time passes so quickly. Your marriage will deteriorate if you don’t pull back from work and reconnect with God and each other. Kids grow quickly and you can never get those days back. Act on the Sabbath principle, and just see if God doesn’t bless it.
A quick update: We’ve had some powerful church meetings as we’ve traveled to churches coast to coast this year.
We also continue to work on a new kid’s praise and worship project. All the recording is done and we are in the mixing process right now. The songs are sounding great. One of our challenges has been that we do all the recording in Tulsa and we live 100 miles away in Oklahoma City, but we are getting closer to completion.
When the recording is complete, we will have extra expenses for first class DVD animation and CD product duplication of about $13,000. Would you consider a financial gift to help us? These praise and worship songs will bless little kids in families and churches around the country. Many churches will actually use the DVDs to lead kid’s worship. Thank you so much for your generosity to minister to little children.
We hope you have a blessed August,
Ken + Trudi Blount
