THIS WEEK’S PROJECT

Marriage

Ecclesiastes 4:12…And a 3 fold cord is not quickly broken.

Marriage is at the apex of all human relationships. It is the only relationship that joins 2 people, a man and a woman, and makes them one.

Malachi 2:15 (NLT) Didn’t the LORD make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.

This joining happens on three different levels: spirit, soul and body. In the next few emails we will break down each level and discuss the sacredness of them. First of all, you are joined in spirit.

When you make wedding vows to each other in the presence of witnesses God is there. He hears your vows and supernaturally joins you in spirit as one. It is a miracle. The only thing like it is when you believe Jesus died for your sin and was raised to new life. When you make a vow to believe a miracle happens. You are raised from the dead in your spirit. In much the same way, and you and your spouse are spiritually joined as one in the sight of God when you make your wedding vows. How does that work? It is a mystery.

Ephesians 5:32 (NLT) This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.

Action

Have a discussion with your spouse about the details of when you were born again. How did you feel? How did your life change after you made that vow to God? Then both of you reminisce about the day of your wedding. How were you feeling before the ceremony? Can you remember your vows? It will help you to go back and remind yourself of your commitment to each other.
