Honoring

1 Peter 3:7 (NKJV) Husbands, likewise, dwell with [them] with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel…

We’ve been talking about ways husbands can honor their wives. This tells us the wife is the weaker vessel.

A vessel is a container that holds something. For instance, a flower vase is a vessel that holds flowers. Vases have different values. For instance, you can buy a vase for $10 at Walmart. But there are vases that are more valuable.

I checked out some vases in the Neiman Marcus catalog and found one called the Lalique Spiral Grand vase. It was valued at $16,600! If I paid that much for a vase, I promise you that I would treat it differently than the $10 vase.

Here is my point. Your wife is a vessel of great price that God gifted you with. But if you don’t treat her with utmost honor, you will never enjoy the rich gift she is supposed to be to you.

Action

Buy your wife a card and tell her how valuable she is to you. Get specific and list reasons that you are grateful for her. I know this is hard for a guy, but spend some time putting into words the different ways she is important to you. You will be amazed what this will do for your relationship. It may change it forever.
